Mardi Gras French Toast
Pecan cream stuffed spiced French toast inspired by King Cake
FRENCH TOAST
- 1 loaf brioche bread
- 2 eggs
- 4 egg whites
- 1.5 cups heavy cream
- 2 tbsp. Vanilla pudding - instant
- 1/4 cup Bisquick
- 1/3 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg - ground
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tbsp baking powder
PECAN CREAM FILLING
- 1 package cream cheese - room temp
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1.5 cup pecans - crushed
- drizzle maple syrup
ICING
- 2 cups powdered sugar - make sure you sift it first
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter - melt and cool down
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 tbsp heavy cream
YOGURT ICING
- 1 cup Greek yogurt plain
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- sprinkle salt
SPARKLES
- sprinkle green
- sprinkle gold
- sprinkle purple
FILLING - Crush the pecans. In a medium bowl combine ingredients beat them and then add the pecans, mix. Add in a drizzle of maple syrup and mix. set aside
TOPPING - Choose a topping yogurt or icing (choose this one) - make the topping by combining the ingredients in a bowl and whisking. set aside.
MARDI GRAS FRENCH TOAST
Combine all the ingredients.
Dip the bread slices - do not soak them.
Cook in a low to medium buttered skillet - low and slow to cook it through without burning.
Place one slice on a plate and smear the pecan filling.
Place top French Toast slice on.
Drizzle with the topping of your choice and sprinkle with all the Mardi Gras color.

* you can also sprinkle with some crushed pecans.
